Medical Definition of fenofibric acid
: a lipid-regulating agent C17H15ClO4 that is the active metabolite of fenofibrate administered orally often in the form of its choline salt C22H28ClNO5 to lower LDL, triglyceride, and apolipoprotein B levels and increase HDL levels in the blood especially in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia
Note: Fenofibric acid is often used in conjunction with a statin. It is marketed under the trademarks Fibricor and Trilipix.
