: a chronic contagious pneumonitis of sheep and sometimes goats that is caused by a retrovirus (species Ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma virus of the genus Betaretrovirus) and that is characterized by proliferation of the pulmonary alveolar epithelium and occlusion of the alveoli and terminal bronchioles
